The Secret Of Blog Monetization
It’s what we all want to know isn’t it? What is the secret behind making money from your writing? How can all those professional bloggers out there make it look so easy. With their massive amounts of feed readers, and countless ad opportunities and even an occasional whiff of their earnings, these guys are who we model ourselves after.
Because after all, wouldn’t it be great to not only blog as a hobby, but to be able to pay the bills as a result of your blogging efforts? Many of us are interested in that and hang on every word from the bloggers we see out there that are doing it. Will this new advertising avenue be the difference? Maybe I should run a contest? Which social networking took is the one that will drive the most traffic to my site?
All of these are important questions that you will find different answers to based on your area of writing, but the one thing that I have found through blogging over the past 4 years is this. Just keep doing it. I know, it’s really mind bending isn’t it? I know this is the simple but real key to successful blogging. I know that my main blog has made more money in the past 3 months than in the first 2 years combined. Part of this was finding out the best ad sources for my niche, but the biggest part was sitting down each day and writing about what I was passionate about.
So, it seems like simple advice, but if you truly want to see your writing pay off, literally, then you have to just keep at it. I won’t tell you that it is gonna take 2 or 3 years before you see the benefit of your labor. But it could. And if it does, are you ok with that? If you are not, you probably should reconsider things. Because as I have come to find, the best bloggers are ones that write because they care about their subject, not because they are awaiting a huge payday. If you care, you will write when you have weeks where your adsense earnings don’t top 1$. If you care you will write when your traffic is less than 50 people a day.
Of course, this is not to say that you cannot strike it rich fast. Many bloggers have been able to grow their traffic and earnings in a matter of months, but, I think that is the exception, rather than the rule.
In closing, be passionate about your writing. The best blogs see the fruits of their labor over time, not overnight……
